Religious Education is a highly academic subject that aims to enrich the whole child, spiritually, morally, socially, and culturally. Including pupils of all faiths, ethnicity, and religions. We nurture and explore the Catholic Faith formation alongside the teachings of the Catholic Church whilst developing respect, tolerance and understanding of the diversity of beliefs in the local community and wider world. We promote community cohesion and deliver an ambitious curriculum that is inclusive of pupils from all backgrounds and abilities in line with Catholic Social Teaching.
We create a safe environment where pupils feel confident to enthusiastically ask questions and feed their curiosity about other religions and different beliefs to their own. As a department we encourage and develop the skills of understanding and empathy ensuring that decision making is based on strong moral values as well as evaluating the opinion of others.
RE is vital for pupils to gain transferable skills such as teamwork, extended writing, organisation, and analysis. These skills are essential in the workplace and within future workplaces. Pupils leave school with a readiness for life after St. Damian’s, so pupils are respectful of others in a multicultural and multifaith environment.
