We are proud to announce that our Chair of Governors, Mrs Elizabeth Jones has been awarded an MBE in the Queens’ Platinum Jubilee Birthday Honours for Services to Education in recognition of over 40 years’ distinguished service to St. Damian’s RC Science College. Mrs Jones has been at the forefront of St. Damian’s journey of school improvement from ‘special measures’ to it being judged ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted in November 2017. She has served the school community with lifelong dedication and commitment.

Mrs Jones is a regular visitor to the school and knows the staff, parents, pupils and is a familiar face in the local community and the local parishes. She is an inspirational lady who has strong values, a strong faith and many remarkable personal qualities. The whole school community is rightly proud of Mrs Jones’ achievement.

On the final day of term, Mrs Jones, MBE, celebrated her award with a special Liturgy in school and was accompanied by staff and special guests including her family, Rev Fr Lemeh, Rev Fr Firth and the Mayor and Mayoress of Tameside as well as Mr Simon Smith, the Director of Education for the Diocese of Salford. It is an honour and a privilege that Mrs Jones continues in her role as Chair of Governors with high aspirations for the future successes of both staff and pupils at St. Damian’s.
