Welcome to St Damian's R.C Science College
A Message from the Headteacher, Mr Logue
As the Headteacher of St Damian’s I warmly welcome you to the St Damian's website which I hope you will find very useful and full of important information. It is both an honour and a privilege to be the Headteacher of such a proud Catholic school. I am truly blessed to have an amazing staff who work tirelessly for your children so that they are given every opportunity to fulfil their true potential. This is at the heart of our Mission. Our staff are supported by very able governors, led by Mrs E Jones, who has a very long association with the school. The governors, like my great staff, work tirelessly behind the scenes to make St Damian’s the special place that it is.
There is a simple reason why I call St Damian’s ‘special’. That is down to the seamless relationships between the pupils and the staff. We pride ourselves on excellent relationships, where we work together to form a loving and caring Community, based on clear boundaries, accepted values and high expectations. Our parents overwhelmingly support the school and indeed we are very heavily over-subscribed, reflecting the confidence of the parents and the wider community.
Last year was arguably the most successful year in our history. We had many ‘firsts’ and gathered a plethora of external accolades and recognition for what ‘we are about’ and what we do. In our Section 48 inspection, in 7 out of 7 categories, we achieved outstanding, officially making us an ‘outstanding Catholic school’. This was a first and was just recognition for the exceptional pastoral care we provide through moral, spiritual and emotional development. The staff were overjoyed by this. This came a few weeks after we received a letter from the Minister of State for Education that stated we were one of the ‘top 100 non-selective state funded schools in England’. This was great recognition of the GCSE outcomes where many records were broken. Pupil outcomes in 2016 showed sustained pupil outcomes. Our collective aim this year is to ensure that the current Year 11 achieve excellent GCSE results. Indicators in school show that this can be achieved.
I have no doubt that by continuing to work together we will achieve our vision, which is simple: to become an outstanding school in all we do. There is no limit to what we, as a community, can achieve. I promise you that I will work relentlessly with staff, governors and parents to ensure that your child gets a world-class education.
