IMPORTANT CHANGES FOR CHILDREN BUYING STAGECOACH DAYRIDER TICKETS.

From Sunday 5 January 2020 Stagecoach are changing the way child dayrider tickets are sold on the bus.

Instead of issuing a paper ticket, the ticket will now be loaded on to a Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) igo card.

Which child tickets are affected?

  • Manchester child dayrider

What does this mean?

To continue to buy a dayrider ticket, children will need an igo card.

  • Children aged 5 – 10 may not hold an igo card, but will need to apply for a igo card to continue to buy this ticket from the bus driver.
  • Children aged 11-16 will already hold an igo card to buy child tickets on the bus.

How can you apply for an igo card?

Visit tfgm.com/igo to download an application form or get a copy of the form from a TfGM Travelshop.

IGO Pass - Apply for a Pass

If you are aged 11 – 16 years you need an ‘igo’ pass to pay the concessionary fare on ALL buses in greater Manchester.  You can get an application form from a TfGM Travelshop.

If you are eligible complete the relevant form and attach:

  • a passport-sized colour photo of yourself
  • proof of your name and age – a copy (not original) of your birth certificate, adoption certificate, medical card, passport or EU/EEA card. Please do not send original documents.
  • payment details (for the £10 fee)

You can take your form and proof to a Travelshop who can check and take payment, or post your documents to the FREEPOST address on the application form.

If you lose your pass it costs £10 for a new one.

To order a replacement pass you can:

- Call TfGM on 0161 244 1000 to make a card payment (7am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 8pm at weekends and public holidays).

- Visit a Travelshop to order and pay for a replacement pass.

You must pay the full fare on buses until your replacement igo arrives.

Please Note: The ‘igo’ pass is a proof of age only and is not a payment method for travelling on buses in Greater Manchester.  Your child will need this to prove they are 16 years and under and will allow them to pay a concessionary rate on the bus for any day of the week and during school holidays in Greater Manchester.

Bus Passes

There are various types of pre-paid bus passes available for pupils to travel on school buses which are used in conjunction with the ‘igo’ pass.  Please check that your child has the current bus pass for the bus service they are travelling on, for example some services have a different company for the morning journey and the afternoon journey.

Behaviour on the Buses

It is essential and expected that all journeys be undertaken in a safe and comfortable manner and any misbehaviour will not be tolerated. Misconduct could mean your child is not allowed to use the bus again. If criminal behaviour takes place the Police will be involved. Parents or guardians of any children found responsible for damage to the bus will have to pay for repairs. Dangerous and potentially dangerous behaviour towards other children or the driver is not tolerated.
