We are delighted to announce that we have been shortlisted in three categories in this year’s Educate Awards 2018.
The shortlisted categories are for ‘Career Aspiration Award’ recognising the comprehensive work we do to prepare pupils for the next step of their lives.
Our very own Mrs Banks has been shortlisted for the prestigious ‘Teacher of the Year’. A well-deserved recognition for an outstanding teacher with a long & distinguished service to the children at St Damian’s.
Mrs Jones has been shortlisted for ‘School Support Star of the Year’. A remarkable lady who is St Damian’s ‘through & through’ and a fantastic tribute for over 40 years of loyal and dedicated service to St Damian’s.
All the staff, pupils and wider Community of St Damian’s wish all three shortlisted categories the best of luck. To get this far has been an outstanding achievement. We also send our best wishes to everyone shortlisted.

Ofsted 'OUTSTANDING' - In ALL AREAS

A Ofsted Outstanding OP Colour

We were visited by Ofsted on Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th November 2017. We were unable to share with you the outcome until now, as the report has had to go through a robust Quality Assurance process. However, that process has now been completed and we are absolutely delighted to say that St Damian’s was awarded OUTSTANDING in ALL areas. This is testament to a very strong community who are united in ensuring that your child achieves a first-class education.

A Message from the Headteacher, Mr Logue

As the Headteacher of St Damian’s I warmly welcome you to the St Damian's website which I hope you will find very useful and full of important information. It is both an honour and a privilege to be the Headteacher of such a proud Catholic school. I am truly blessed to have an amazing staff who work tirelessly for your children so that they are given every opportunity to fulfil their true potential. This is at the heart of our Mission. Our staff are supported by very able governors, led by Mrs E Jones, who has a very long association with the school. The governors, like my great staff, work tirelessly behind the scenes to make St Damian’s the special place that it is.

There is a simple reason why I call St Damian’s ‘special’. That is down to the seamless relationships between the pupils and the staff. We pride ourselves on excellent relationships, where we work together to form a loving and caring Community, based on clear boundaries, accepted values and high expectations. Our parents overwhelmingly support the school and indeed we are very heavily over-subscribed, reflecting the confidence of the parents and the wider community.

Last year was arguably the most successful year in our history. We had many ‘firsts’ and gathered a plethora of external accolades and recognition for what ‘we are about’ and what we do. In our Section 48 inspection, in 7 out of 7 categories, we achieved outstanding, officially making us an ‘outstanding Catholic school’. This was a first and was just recognition for the exceptional pastoral care we provide through moral, spiritual and emotional development. The staff were overjoyed by this. This came a few weeks after we received a letter from the Minister of State for Education that stated we were one of the ‘top 100 non-selective state funded schools in England’. This was great recognition of the GCSE outcomes where many records were broken. Pupil outcomes in 2016 showed sustained pupil outcomes. Our collective aim this year is to ensure that the current Year 11 achieve excellent GCSE results. Indicators in school show that this can be achieved.

I have no doubt that by continuing to work together we will achieve our vision, which is simple: to become an outstanding school in all we do. There is no limit to what we, as a community, can achieve. I promise you that I will work relentlessly with staff, governors and parents to ensure that your child gets a world-class education.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It’s official ! We are an OUTSTANDING Catholic School

(Salford Diocese Inspection: March 2016)

Another milestone for the St Damian’s Community.  On the 9th March 2016 we were inspected by Salford Diocese by 3 inspectors who looked at 7 different categories within our school. The day was a resounding success and we achieved 7 outstanding grades. This is testament to the fantastic working relationships between pupils, staff, parents and governors who all work together to make St Damian’s such a special place. I hope that you will rejoice with the pupils, my staff, the governors and myself and be very proud of St Damian’s.  Read the full report here.

Progress 8 Information for Parents

Curriculum & Assessment Changes

Progress 8

  • Pupils are measured on how much progress they make from when they start in Year 7 to when they complete their examinations at the end of Year 11 in eight subjects that meet the Department for Education criteria.
  • The Progress 8 measure is designed to encourage all students to study a broad and balanced curriculum.
  • For each pupil, the 8 subjects must be a combination from the diagram below:

Progress 8

Attainment 8

  • Shows a pupils’ average achievement [grade] across the 8 subjects in the Progress 8 measure.

English and Mathematics

  • Measures whether a pupil achieves a Grade 5 or better in both English (either Language or Literature) and Mathematics.

The English Baccalaureate

  • Shows whether a pupil achieved good grades (A*-C or 5-9) across the EBacc qualifications listed above.

What does Progress 8 mean for pupils?

  • Taking a broad range of KS4 subject choices, moving into Year 10.
  • Achieving across all subjects.
  • Not dropping subjects.
  • Careful monitoring of progress all of the time.

Alternative Curriculum Provision

  • Where these subjects are not appropriate for an individual pupil, alternative provision is recommended by the College, to develop individual pupil strengths and maximise pupil achievement ensuring a smooth transition to post-16 provision.
